ISLAMABAD:
A senior management delegation led by Tahir Zaman has met the newly elected president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, to brief him on recent overseas tours undertaken by the Pakistan Hockey Team.
The meeting, held in Islamabad, focused on Pakistan’s recent hockey tours to Argentina, Australia and Bangladesh, with the delegation outlining team performances, logistical challenges and instances of mismanagement during those visits. Officials said the briefing offered a candid assessment of structural shortcomings and provided what they described as a “fresh perspective” on the future direction of Pakistan hockey.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, President Wani advised the management team to continue accompanying the national side on its ongoing tour for the Cairo World Cup qualifier.
However, the delegation requested permission to step back from the current tour in order to prepare a comprehensive report for the PHF. The proposed document will focus on improving tour planning, addressing governance issues and strengthening the professional development of Pakistan’s hockey players.
President Wani accepted the request, allowing the management team to prioritise the preparation of the report rather than travelling with the squad. The report is expected to serve as a guiding framework for future Pakistan hockey tours and broader institutional reforms within the federation.
Pakistan hockey has struggled in recent years amid administrative challenges and inconsistent results, and officials hope the review process will help lay the groundwork for a more professional and sustainable structure going forward.
