Almost 20 years after taking audiences behind the velvet ropes of ‘Runway Magazine’, Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway are set to reprise their iconic roles in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, and the first teaser has already sent fans into a nostalgic frenzy.
Released by 20th Century Studios this week, the brief 52-second clip pays homage to the elevator scene that became emblematic of the original film, set to Madonna’s ‘Vogue’. Streep’s Miranda Priestly greets Hathaway’s Andy Sachs with a dry, “Took you long enough,” prompting smirks and sunglasses-wearing cool from the former assistant.
The teaser offers little about the plot but promises a sharp, style-infused continuation of the original story. This time, the focus shifts to Miranda’s perspective as she navigates a world in which print journalism is in decline and the fashion industry is contending with a rapidly digitising media landscape.
Emily Blunt returns as Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group, creating new tension with Priestly as she seeks desperately needed advertising revenue. Stanley Tucci also reprises his role as Nigel, rounding out the familiar faces of ‘Runway’.
Joining the original ensemble are fresh faces poised to shake up the fashion world on-screen, including Kenneth Branagh as Miranda’s husband, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J Shen, Pauline Chalamet, BJ Novak, and Conrad Ricamora.
Lady Gaga is also expected to appear, generating additional buzz ahead of the film’s May 1, 2026, theatrical release. Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s love interest Nate in the first film, will not be returning.
Directed once again by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the sequel reunites the original creative team, including producers Wendy Finerman and Karen Rosenfelt.
The film aims to retain the witty, cutting humour that defined the 2006 hit, which earned over $326 million worldwide and cemented itself as a cultural touchstone for a generation fascinated by the intersection of fashion, ambition, and power.
The original ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ followed young Andy Sachs as she struggled to balance a demanding career at Runway Magazine with her personal life, under the relentless eye of Miranda Priestly.
The sequel promises to continue exploring these dynamics but through a lens that reflects the fashion industry’s current upheaval, as digital media reshapes how style, influence, and careers are defined.
With its first teaser generating immediate excitement online, fans and fashion enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting the return to Runway’s glitzy halls and cutthroat boardrooms.
From iconic stilettos to clever dialogue, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ aims to capture both the nostalgia of the original and the challenges of a new era, offering a glimpse into a world where power, style, and ambition are as glamorous — and ruthless — as ever.
