KARACHI:
The Karachi Traffic Police have imposed a 24-hour ban on all dumpers and tankers operating in the city, except those equipped with a tracker registered with the traffic authorities.
The decision comes after a fatal accident near Razzakabad Police Training Centre, National Highway in the early hours, where a speeding dumper collided with a rickshaw and a van, killing the rickshaw driver on the spot.
Following the incident, the DIG Traffic issued instructions to all SSPs, DSPs, and SHOs to enforce the ban on all dumpers and water tankers unless fitted with approved trackers, which remain under the control of the traffic police.
Traffic officials have also been directed to coordinate with the Information Technology team of the TRA department to verify the presence of trackers on the vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRCS) imposed a fine of Rs100,000 — the heaviest e-challan to date — on the dumper involved in the latest accident.

The strict action has been taken in response to the frequent fatal accidents caused by heavy vehicles operating recklessly, often during restricted hours, with expired fitness certificates or outdated safety standards. Authorities have warned that any violators of the tracker rule will face stringent penalties.
Earlier this month, a speeding dumper truck hit Shahzaib, a ladies tailor, in Karachi’s Garden area. He died enroute to the hospital while his wife sustained injuries. Passersby caught the errant driver and set his vehicle ablaze. The Dumper Trucks Association responded by firing gunshots in the air.
