HBL PSL11 schedule becomes major concern

KARACHI:

The schedule for the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11 has become a major issue, as franchises are demanding a significant increase in the number of matches following the inclusion of two new teams, while the PCB is reluctant due to the limited available window.

According to details, the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League would be held next year in April and May.

The PCB has started the process of selling the two new franchises, but consensus has not yet been reached on the total number of matches. Initially, 44 to 60 matches have been proposed.

Franchises want more matches to increase revenue, suggesting that each team should play at least 14 matches in the first round.

However, PCB officials argue that due to the limited window, this will not be feasible.

Team owners have suggested scheduling two matches each on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays to resolve the issue, but discussions are still ongoing. A final decision on whether the player selection process will be through a draft or auction has also not been made yet.

Meanwhile, following the resignation of Shoaib Khalid, Manager Partnerships and Player Acquisitions, the PCB has not yet found a suitable replacement.

Recently, a job advertisement was issued for the position of Consultant Player Acquisitions PSL, with the deadline for applications having passed yesterday. Officials will now make a decision in this regard.

This is considered a key role, as maintaining contact with foreign players and agents requires an experienced official.

For this reason, the PCB has also reached out to some of its former employees and a few current franchise officials, though they are hesitant to leave their permanent positions for the PCB.

It is expected that a new official will be appointed later this month.
