IHC seeks action on campus drugs

.
ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed the Inspector General of Police to convene a meeting within two weeks with the ANF, the Private Schools Authority, and other relevant bodies to devise measures for eliminating drugs from educational institutions in the federal capital.
Justice Inam Amin Minhas observed that while law and order remain vital concerns, the eradication of drugs is equally imperative.
The judge was hearing a case pertaining to drug prevention in Islamabad’s educational institutions. Despite a prior court order requiring the formulation of a comprehensive framework, the IG Islamabad had yet to meet with the concerned departments. The Deputy Attorney General explained that the IG had been preoccupied due to the prevailing security situation, but assured the court that the meeting would take place shortly.
The court noted that, notwithstanding the security arrangements, a blast had occurred at the district courts. Justice Minhas remarked, “Kindly inform the IG that this matter would require no more than an hour of his time.”
A representative of PIERA informed the court that Islamabad has approximately 1,400 educational institutions, yet only three officials are responsible for conducting inspections to curb drug use in these establishments.
