Myanmar hand Pakistan 2-1 defeat in Asian Cup Qualifier

ISLAMABAD:
Myanmar defeated Pakistan 2-1 in their AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2027 encounter played behind closed doors at Jinnah Stadium on Monday.
Both teams showed attacking intent from the outset, with an evenly contested first half. Pakistan and Myanmar created several chances but failed to convert, as the opening 45 minutes ended goalless despite a lively tempo.
The deadlock was broken shortly after the restart in the 47th minute, when a defensive lapse handed Myanmar the lead. A Pakistani defender attempted to pass the ball back to the goalkeeper, but a miscommunication resulted in the ball rolling into the net for an unfortunate own goal.
Myanmar capitalised on the momentum and doubled their advantage in the 59th minute with a well-taken goal, putting Pakistan under increasing pressure.
Trailing by two goals, Pakistan pushed forward in search of a comeback, creating a few late opportunities. Their efforts were finally rewarded in stoppage time when they pulled one goal back in the 91st minute.
However, the late strike proved insufficient, as Myanmar held firm in the closing moments to secure all three points.
The result leaves Pakistan with work to do in the qualifying campaign, while Myanmar will take confidence from a disciplined performance and a valuable away victory.
