Scooty-riding woman killed in road crash

KARACHI:

A speeding car rammed into a scooty near Dumba Goth on M9 Motorway on Sunday, causing two women riding the two-wheeler to fall off a bridge. One of them died on the spot, while the other sustained critical injuries.

According to police, the victims — both residents of Bahria Town and teachers by profession — were travelling towards the city when the accident occurred. The car hit the scooter with such force that the women were thrown off the bridge. Rescue teams and area residents rushed to the spot shortly after the incident.

The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Samra Sheikh, daughter of Hatim Sheikh, while the injured woman was identified as 37-year-old Rabia Naz, daughter of Shahid Ali. Both were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors confirmed Samra’s death. Rabia remains in critical condition.

Gadap City SHO Sarfaraz Jatoi told The Express that the victims were colleagues and worked at a private coaching centre in the city. “They were riding from Bahria Town towards their workplace when a speeding vehicle hit their scooter near Dumba Goth,” he said. The police have impounded the car and arrested the driver, identified as Kashif Aziz. Further investigation is under way.

Relatives of the deceased said the two women were close friends and neighbours. Samra’s cousin told reporters that she taught English at a language centre. The pair had left home together in the morning on their scooter when the speeding vehicle struck them from behind.“The speed at which the car hit their scooter is beyond our understanding,” he added.
