KARACHI:
Eidgah police have arrested a suspect accused of hacking citizens’-particularly women’s-mobile phones and social media accounts to blackmail them and force them into immoral activities.
According to police, the suspect has been identified as Sameer Khan, who allegedly sent malicious links to women, hacked their devices and social media accounts, and extracted their contact numbers.
He then used WhatsApp calls and messages to threaten and intimidate them.
Police said the suspect forced the trapped women to designated locations under duress, secretly recorded their videos, and later exploited those recordings to extort money and coerce them into unethical acts.
The spokesperson added that the accused had already harassed several women and extorted money from them.
Two mobile phones were recovered from his possession, containing inappropriate videos allegedly made by him.
Physical remand
Police presented Sameer Khan before the court, stating that his criminal record needed to be verified and the recovered mobile phones required forensic examination.
The police requested physical remand to further interrogate the suspect. Granting the request, the court handed Sameer Khan over to police custody for three days and directed the investigating officer to submit a progress report at the next hearing.
